EastEnders: Max Branning's Wedding Day Collapse Sparks Split from Cindy, Reunion with Linda
By Lewis Knight

EastEnders viewers who accessed the episode airing Wednesday 9 September early on BBC iPlayer have seen dramatic fallout from Max Branning's wedding to Cindy Beale, including a health scare, a marriage collapse, and a new romantic pairing.
The previous episode ended with Max, played by Jake Wood, suffering a cardiac arrest during his wedding speech, moments after narrowly avoiding exposure of his affair with Priya Nandra-Hart, played by Sophie Khan Levy, by Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright. Linda, who recently declared her love for Max, is the person he is truly in love with.
In the new episode, Max's family rushed to the hospital fearing the worst after his collapse at the wedding venue. Doctors confirmed he would survive, consistent with a flash-forward episode broadcast earlier this year showing Max still alive in 2027. Medical staff attributed the cardiac episode to stress and poor lifestyle choices.
At Peacock's Palace, Linda spoke with her mother, Elaine Peacock, played by Harriet Thorpe, about Max's actions. Although Elaine suggested both Linda and Cindy deserved better, she recognised the depth of Linda's feelings. Linda revealed this was the first time she had loved someone this intensely since the loss of her late husband, Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer.
Back at the hospital, Cindy, played by Michelle Collins, remained in her wedding dress as she sat with Max. He confessed that their relationship was flawed and that, despite having just exchanged vows, he did not love her enough to stay married. Cindy, distraught, insisted they belonged together, but as Max grew increasingly agitated, medical staff asked her to leave the room for his wellbeing.
Linda later arrived at the hospital and sat with Max, who told her he had ended his marriage to Cindy and declared his true feelings were for her. Despite knowing about mistakes he had made, Linda admitted she loved him too, suggesting the two may now become a couple.
The episode closed with a heartbroken Cindy returning home by taxi and breaking down in tears outside her house. Jean Slater, played by Gillian Wright, comforted her, mistakenly assuming Cindy had learned of Max's affair with Priya and reassuring her that Max wasn't worth grieving over, noting she had told Priya the same. This revelation caused Cindy to realise the truth about Max's infidelity, leading to further distress as the episode ended.
Michelle Collins has hinted that Cindy will seek revenge following the collapse of her marriage, warning that "hell hath no fury" like a scorned Cindy. With the marriage seemingly headed for annulment, it appears Cindy will not be the bride marrying Max on New Year's Day as previously anticipated. Instead, Linda may now be positioned as the frontrunner for that role, raising questions about whether she could marry Max on the 11th anniversary of her wedding to Mick. Further developments are expected in upcoming episodes.
