Fabian Hurzeler explained why he was surprised by Diego Gomez’s left‑foot goal at the Amex. The Paraguayan striker opened the scoring with a 25‑yard left‑foot blast, giving Brighton a 2‑0 victory over Brentford. Pascal Gross later added a penalty, securing the Seagulls’ second place in the Premier League before the international break. Gomez, normally known for his right‑foot shots, had scored from the halfway line with his right in the previous home match against Crystal Palace three weeks earlier. Hurzeler said Gomez had been training with his left foot on Friday without much success. "He trained shooting with the left foot. He shot once, twice, the third time, and I couldn't see him scoring today with a left foot. The shots weren't great so I asked him today after the game where he got this quality from overnight. It's a huge improvement in a very short period!" the Albion head coach said. He praised Gomez’s team‑first attitude, work ethic and belief, noting that such qualities lead to rewards like the goal. The goal also places Gomez on the shortlist for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for October. Brighton’s clean sheet was the seventh of the campaign, and the match saw Brentford’s striker Igor Thiago sent off midway through the first half after an incident with Chema Andres.
