Two Men Arrested After Police Officers Hurt in Glasgow Street Brawl

Two men were arrested and three police officers were injured during a street disturbance outside a bare‑knuckle fighting championship in Glasgow. Footage shared on social media shows men trading punches on the street outside the Ovo Hydro, where the event took place on Saturday evening. More than 20 police vehicles and a helicopter were dispatched to the area. Three officers were hurt, two of them requiring medical treatment, while responding to the disorder. Police Scotland said the 32‑year‑old and 27‑year‑old men were arrested and charged with assault, obstructing police and threatening and abusive behaviour. Thousands of spectators had earlier gathered for the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) event, where Sean Weir from Wishaw defeated Leigh Cohoon from Manchester when the referee stopped the fight in the first round. At about 23:10, police received reports of a large disturbance in the Congress Road area outside the venue. Chief Inspector Paul Daley said, "Several officers were assaulted whilst carrying out their duties during disorder following an event at the Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday night. Violence against officers is disgraceful and will not be tolerated. Being assaulted is not part of the job and it's extremely fortunate they were not seriously injured." The two men charged will be reported to prosecutors. Three other men were arrested and issued with recorded police warnings for threatening and abusive behaviour and breach of the peace. Police said inquiries were continuing and that anyone found responsible "will be brought to justice" and urged anyone with information about the disturbance to contact them.
