Police Vehicle Overturned by Bus Near Ramban, Four Officers Injured

A police vehicle overturned after being struck by a bus on the Jammu‑Srinagar National Highway near Chanderkote in Ramban district on Sunday, November 8, 2026, officials said. The incident occurred shortly after the police vehicle joined the escort of BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, as his convoy entered Chanderkote jurisdiction while travelling from Srinagar to Jammu. The bus hit the police vehicle at a crossing, causing it to overturn on the highway. Four police personnel, including Station House Officer Inspector Vicky Thapa, sustained minor injuries. They were taken to District Hospital Ramban for treatment. Mr. Sharma stopped his convoy and joined the rescue efforts after witnessing the accident. He said the police vehicle suffered extensive damage but all personnel on board were safe. “Vehicles travel at high speeds on national highways, and failure to exercise caution while approaching crossings can lead to such accidents. The manner in which the bus hit the police vehicle underscores the need for greater vigilance at crossings, particularly those along national highways,” he told PTI. Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Ramban, Dr. Mohammad Rafi Wani, said the condition of the four police personnel was stable. “After receiving first aid and undergoing necessary scans, the injured policemen were discharged,” he said.
