Trenton Volleyball Advances to District Finals After Five‑Set Victory Over Woodhaven

TEMPERANCE – Trenton’s girls volleyball team secured a spot in the Division 1 district finals after a five‑set win over Brownstown Woodhaven Wednesday night at Bedford High School. The Trojans finished the match 25‑16, 25‑19, 23‑25, 23‑25, 15‑9. Coach Amanda Sammons noted that Woodhaven had been eager to beat Trenton, having faced them twice in the regular season. “What happens in the season doesn’t matter now that we’re in the post‑season,” Sammons said. She praised Woodhaven’s preparation, saying the Warriors had studied Trenton’s film and forced the Trojans to adjust offensively.
The match was tightly contested. Trenton’s Brenna McMaster tipped a ball for a 9‑8 lead that the team never relinquished. Woodhaven’s Payton Koski served well in the second set, but Trenton’s Mackenzie Aguirre and Grace Wend found open spots and secured a 25‑19 win. In the third set, Trenton’s Noell Hughes broke a 16‑15 tie, but Woodhaven’s Kymiah Brown‑Keeley and Emma Greer answered. The fourth set saw Woodhaven take a 5‑0 lead, but Trenton’s Shaniah Pu’ulei‑Kohatsu kept the set close.
The final set featured six ties before Trenton pulled away. Hughes finished with 16 kills and 21 digs, Aguirre had 14 kills and 19 digs, and senior setter Kassidy Korndorfer recorded 44 assists. Woodhaven’s senior players left the court as the Warriors say goodbye to six seniors.
Woodhaven head coach Emelia Mihuc praised her team’s effort, noting that the full roster was present for the first time in recent matchups. Trenton will face Bedford High, the district host and perennial state power, in the championship game Thursday, November 5 at 7 p.m. at Bedford High School.
