Ten of Eleven Pink Line Stations to Feature Dual‑Side Access

With roughly 70% of the viaduct for the 11.20‑km Kakkanad extension of the Kochi metro’s Pink Line finished, track laying is set to begin. Official sources said that work on all 11 stations in the corridor will pick up after a recent lull, in line with the revised August 2027 deadline for completing the extension. Contrary to reports that a few stations would have entry/exit only on one side of the road, ten of the eleven stations will have access from both sides beneath the new metro line. The terminal station, whose construction will start on the Smart City premises, will have entry/exit only on the right‑hand side, with a foot overbridge linking the public to the station. Structural work on the Chittetukara station’s entry/exit is complete on both sides of the road, while the left‑hand side of the KINFRA Park station is finished. Work on the right‑hand side of the Vazhakkala station is complete and architectural work has begun. Structural work on the left‑hand side entry/exit of the Civil Station Junction and Cochin SEZ stations is scheduled to finish by the first week of December. The foundation work for the Chembumukku station’s entry/exit, whose land acquisition was delayed, is finished, and the rest of the work is expected to accelerate on both sides of the road. Metro sources said that the delay in starting work on the right‑hand side entry/exit of Palarivattom Junction and Padamugal stations was due to land‑acquisition issues; the required plots will be acquired by the end of December. Most pending works on the stations are expected to pick up in the coming weeks, as pre‑fabricated structures are ready at the casting yard and will be transported by lorry to the stations. These will be installed, followed by architectural work, track laying, and the installation of signals, telecommunications equipment, lifts and escalators. The Pink Line will begin at Palarivattom Junction and continue through Alinchuvadu, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamugal, Civil Station Junction, Cochin SEZ, Chittettukara, KINFRA Park, Infopark, and Smart City.
