Retired Madras High Court Judge Criticises India’s Shift in Israel Policy

Retired Madras High Court judge Justice Hari Paranthaman said it is regrettable that India, once one of the few countries that did not recognise Israel at its founding, has now dramatically changed its position. The comment was made during the launch of the book *Amerikka-Israel Aneethiyum Makkal Samuga Kadamaiyum* (American‑Israeli Injustice and the Duty of Civil Society) by C.S. Rex Sargunam, published by Chinthan Books. The event took place Saturday evening at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai. The book was released by V. Meenakshisundaram, former editor of *Theekkathir*, and received by ‘Sigaram’ Senthilnathan, State vice‑president of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association (TNPWAA). The book contains articles that examine the trajectory of hostilities between the United States and Iran and the Israel‑Lebanon conflict. Justice Paranthaman noted that when Israel was formed in the late 1940s, only a handful of countries—including India, Iran and Yugoslavia—did not recognise it, but in recent years India has shifted to actively support Israel. At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Rex Sargunam urged people to unite in support of Palestine. Published – November 07, 2026 11:40 pm IST
