Indian Duo Adkar and Bhosale Reach First WTA Tour Doubles Final

Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale made history at the Chennai Open by becoming the first all‑Indian women’s pair to reach a doubles final on the main WTA Tour. The pair beat second seeds Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the United States 6‑2, 2‑6, 10‑8 in a hard‑fought semifinal. Adkar and Bhosale started the match strongly, taking the first set 6‑2, but lost momentum in the second, which Falkowska and Smith won 6‑2. In the deciding super tie‑break, the Indians fought back from a 6‑8 deficit, with Bhosale hitting a crucial forehand winner and Adkar finishing the match with a volley and a forehand down the line to secure a 10‑8 victory.
This marks the first time an all‑Indian women’s team has reached a final at the main WTA Tour level. Previous Indian doubles finalists included Shikha Uberoi and her sister Neha in 2005, when Neha was representing the United States, and Sania Mirza, who won 43 doubles titles but never with an Indian partner. A WTA 125 doubles title won by Ankita Raina and Karman Thandi in 2018 is a lower‑tier event.
Adkar and Bhosale will face the Swiss pair Naima Karamoko and Simona Waltert in the final. Karamoko and Waltert earned their spot by defeating Isabelle Haverlag and Panna Udvardy 6‑4, 6‑4.
In singles, top seed and defending champion Janice Tjen advanced to the final after a 6‑3, 6‑4 win over Robin Montgomery, while third seed Magda Linette moved forward with a 2‑6, 6‑2, 6‑3 victory over Anastasia Zakharova.
