Texas Weather: Cool Mornings, Scattered Showers, and a Panhandle Freeze Expected
By David Reimer

It is finally feeling like November in Texas, with cool mornings, comfortable afternoons and minimal weather complaints. A cold front will reach the Panhandle on Thursday, bringing a localized freeze to the northwestern Panhandle on Friday morning. Scattered showers and a few storms will favor the southern part of the state over the weekend. By Monday morning, temperatures in the 40s will extend all the way down to I‑10.
North Texas / DFW: Highs in the 70s today, mid‑to‑upper 70s Thursday, and a low of 55 in DFW Friday morning. Most of Thursday’s showers and storms remain north in Oklahoma. Saturday highs will be in the upper 60s to upper 70s, mostly 60s on Sunday.
Central Texas / Hill Country / I‑35: Lows in the 40s in the Hill Country Friday morning. Scattered showers and a few storms are possible in the western Hill Country Saturday, with 20% to 50% rain chances Saturday night. Monday morning lows will be in the 40s in Austin and Kerrville.
South Texas / Rio Grande Plains: McAllen will hit 91 Thursday and 84 Friday. Pop‑up showers and storms are possible in the Coastal Bend, Coastal Plains and Rio Grande Valley Thursday afternoon into Friday morning, with dangerous lightning and locally heavy rain. More rain chances this weekend, best in the Valley and deep South Texas Sunday, where some spots could top an inch.
Houston / Gulf Coast: 80s Friday in Houston and Beaumont. Monday morning brings 40s to the north side of the Houston metro and Beaumont.
East Texas / Piney Woods: Lows in the 40s tonight in the Ark‑La‑Tex, Northeast Texas and the Piney Woods, with 46 in Lufkin. Mostly dry and pleasant.
West Texas / Panhandle / Permian Basin / Big Bend / Borderlands: The front reaches the Panhandle Thursday, with most showers and storms skirting into Oklahoma. Thursday highs in the 50s in Amarillo, Pampa, Dalhart and Plainview, and 60 in Lubbock. Friday morning temperatures are 32 in Dalhart, 37 in Amarillo and Pampa, 41 from Childress to Lubbock and 39 in Plains, indicating a localized freeze in the northwestern Panhandle and possible frost in the South Plains and Rolling Plains. Scattered showers Saturday in the Big Bend, Trans‑Pecos, Edwards Plateau and southern Permian Basin, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s across the western half of Texas under the clouds.
The Thursday front is not a strong cold front. It sparks showers and storms in Oklahoma Thursday and a few pop‑up storms in South Texas Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, where moisture is higher. Any storm brings lightning, so if you hear thunder, head indoors.
The weekend will see a branch of the subtropical jet stream bringing lift to the southern third of Texas Saturday through Monday, resulting in unsettled weather and scattered showers in the south, but not a washout. Fire danger remains low statewide.
There is no major cold front expected for at least the next ten days. The weather will remain classic fall, with Thanksgiving only a few weeks away and many already putting up Christmas decorations.
