Fire on 23rd Floor of Ghatkopar East Apartment Leaves Three Hospitalised

A fire broke out on the 23rd floor of the 25‑storey Royal Altezza residential building on Vallabh Baug Lane in Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar East, on Friday evening, November 6, 2026. The blaze was brought under control after the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) responded. Police preliminarily suspect a short circuit as the cause.
Three people were injured and taken to hospital. Sainath Awale, 45, suffered 27 % burn injuries and was reported stable by the on‑duty Assistant Medical Officer at 9:25 p.m. Dr. Rozbin of Zynova Hospital confirmed that Nirav Lodaya, 34, and Rajesh Lodaya, 47, were admitted at 10:40 p.m.; both were also in stable condition. Two children who suffered suffocation were taken to Zynova Hospital.
The MFB received the call at 8:08 p.m., declared a Level‑I fire at 8:30 p.m. and escalated to Level‑II at 8:52 p.m. The building was evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to a statement from the Mayor’s Office. Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the site that night, along with MLA Parag Shah and corporators Suresh Awale and Dharmesh Giri. DCP (East Zone 2) Ganesh Shinde said the fire started while residents were installing fairy lights for Deepavali, which triggered the short circuit.
After safety checks by the MFB and Mumbai police, wings C and D of the building were cleared for residents to return. The building will remain closed until the Fire Department and the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited allow reopening. The extent of the damage is not yet known. The incident involved personnel from the MFB, police, the electricity distribution company, the Public Works Department and BMC ward staff.
