New Delhi – The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) approved 12 projects under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) to localise production of battery components, raw materials for printed circuit boards, and manufacturing equipment. The approved projects represent a total investment of ₹7,503 crore over up to five years and will qualify for incentives once production begins.

Key approvals include Indo Asia Copper Ltd’s ₹3,546‑crore copper foil plant in Gujarat, which will supply raw material for lithium‑ion battery cells and printed circuit boards; Advanced Carbons Company (TACC) Ltd’s ₹2,438‑crore facility in Madhya Pradesh to manufacture anode material for battery cells; and Lohum’s subsidiary Vidyuta Materials’ ₹399‑crore battery materials plant in Uttar Pradesh.

Wipro Precision Automation and Robotics India (Pari), a wholly owned subsidiary of Wipro Enterprises, and Rockwell Automation India, the local subsidiary of the U.S. robotics firm, received incentives for localising the assembly and manufacturing of electronics manufacturing machines, with a combined investment of ₹211 crore.

This sixth tranche is part of MeitY’s flagship ₹40,000‑crore ECMS initiative, which aims to build a domestic electronics component supply chain. The scheme, notified in April 2025, follows India’s production‑linked incentive (PLI) programme for mobile‑phone assembly.

MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said the scheme has exceeded its initial targets, noting 118 applications across 16 states for 34 products, approved investment of ₹77,051 crore, and current electronics production of ₹5.73 trillion. The programme has also created 81,755 jobs.

IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urged companies to submit complete applications with clear production plans before seeking incentives, warning that incomplete applications would be rejected.

Joint Secretary Sushil Pal highlighted that this tranche is the first in ECMS history to consider companies outside the electronics systems design and manufacturing (ESDM) ecosystem. Previous large approvals went to Tata Electronics, Motherson Group, and Foxconn subsidiary Yuzhan for mobile‑phone enclosure manufacturing.

ECMS offers incentives of up to 8 % of annual turnover for component manufacturing and up to 25 % of capital expenditure for manufacturing equipment in the sector.
