Indian Police Service officer Rajesh Kumar, a 1995‑batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, has been appointed Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh by an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his premature repatriation from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to his parent AGMUT cadre. The incumbent DGP, Shiv Darshan Singh Jamwal, was transferred to Delhi, and Kumar, who is returning from central deputation, has taken over the post. The order dated 3 November approved the postings of the two 1995‑batch AGMUT cadre IPS officers with immediate effect.
Kumar has extensive experience in law‑and‑order and security operations in militancy‑affected areas, especially Jammu and Kashmir. He has served as Inspector General, Additional Director General and Special Director General of the CRPF, and held key roles in Jammu and Kashmir as IG, ADG, and SD CRPF, handling many terror encounters. He was also DIG of the North Kashmir Range (Baramulla), IGP of the Jammu Zone, and IG of the Special Security Group. He joined the CRPF on central deputation in March 2018 as an IG, was appointed IG CRPF (Operations), Kashmir in June 2019 after the Pulwama attack, and later served as IG (Administration) at the force’s headquarters around 2023.
