Judge Orders 14‑Day Halt to Trump’s Washington Arch Project
By AP

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has issued a temporary injunction that pauses construction of President Donald Trump’s 250‑foot “triumphal arch” in Washington, D.C., for 14 days. The decision came after the National Capital Planning Commission approved the project with an 8‑4 vote, despite protests from dozens of witnesses. The pause follows a series of lawsuits, including one filed by Vietnam war veterans in February, who argue the arch could obstruct the view between Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial. Trump originally proposed the arch last year to commemorate 250 years of U.S. independence, likening it to Paris’s Arc de Triomphe. The arch is part of a broader set of Trump projects in the capital, some of which have been blocked by courts. The injunction comes as Democrats have gained control of Congress in the recent midterm elections, potentially increasing scrutiny of Trump’s plans.
