India Tests Indigenously Developed Quasi‑Ballistic Missile Pralay

India successfully test‑fired the indigenously developed quasi‑ballistic missile Pralay from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on Thursday. The missile, built by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is a short‑range surface‑to‑surface system with a payload capacity of 500 to 1,000 kg and can carry conventional warheads, the defence ministry said. "With this successful test, the induction of the system has become imminent," the ministry added. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Defence Forces and industry partners for the flight‑test, noting that the missile’s advanced technologies will enhance the military’s technological capabilities and operational preparedness against emerging threats. Singh posted on X that the test, part of user evaluation trials, met all stipulated objectives as validated by data from various range instruments, marking another milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities. The ministry confirmed that all test objectives were fully met, as shown by data captured by Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. The missile was developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, and other DRDO laboratories, with Bharat Dynamics Limited producing the system. Senior officials from DRDO, industry representatives and defence forces were present for the user evaluation trial.
