Fakhar Zaman’s Century Propels Pakistan to Tri‑Series Victory

Pakistan won the One‑Day International tri‑series final against Sri Lanka after Fakhar Zaman scored a match‑winning century. The 36‑year‑old left‑hander, who has been praised for his ability to perform in crucial moments, said that his recent form had been shaky but that he was confident when the ball came to him. He added, “When it is my day, I will score big.” Zaman’s 12th ODI century was also the fourth time he has chased a target of over 300.
Pakistan’s lineup was missing wicket‑keeper Mohammad Rizwan, but young left‑hander Saad Baig, who made his debut earlier in the series, provided support. Baig, who turns 20 today, said that the pressure of international cricket was a learning experience and that he had planned to stay settled at the crease. He credited Zaman for giving him a solid start, which allowed him to play his own innings.
In the final innings, Pakistan struggled between overs 32.5 and 42.5, failing to hit a boundary. The team relied on rotating the strike until a delivery from Sri Lankan bowler Asitha Fernando prompted a breakthrough. Arafat Khan, who was awarded player of the series, hit two sixes and a four in the 45th over before being dismissed, leaving Pakistan two runs short of victory. Khan said that communication and partnership with teammate Hasan Nawaz were key to their rescue effort.
The win sets Pakistan’s ODI schedule for the upcoming World Cup in South Africa. The team now features a mix of experienced players like Zaman and emerging talents such as Baig and Khan, aiming to combine past successes with future promise.
