Telangana High Court Imposes Two‑Month Jail and Fine on Inspector for Court Contempt

The Telangana High Court sentenced an Inspector to two months’ imprisonment and a ₹2,000 fine for contempt of court. Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy also suspended the sentence for two weeks, allowing the Inspector to appeal. The contempt case was brought by A. Sekhar Babu and seven others, who claimed that the Inspector failed to provide protection for their plots despite a 2023 High Court order. Most petitioners were senior citizens who said that a single judge had directed the Inspector to guard them against illegal interference by three respondents in the writ petition, but the then Station House Officer, M. Prem Kumar, did not act. The Inspector argued he was unaware of the earlier order. The judge responded that lack of prior knowledge does not excuse inaction and that the Inspector was required to examine the order and enforce it in accordance with the law.
