Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) and one of India's largest private airport operators, has signed binding agreements to raise ₹9,825 crore ($1 billion) in primary equity capital from a group of investors including Alpha Wave Global, Premji Invest, Temasek, and funds managed by BlackRock. The deal values AAHL at a pre-money equity valuation of $18 billion, marking one of the largest primary equity investments by financial institutions in India's airport infrastructure sector. AEL described the participation of these long-term domestic and global investors as a strong institutional endorsement of AAHL's scale, operational capabilities, and growth prospects. The company noted that the investment introduces long-duration institutional capital at a time when India's aviation sector is experiencing sustained passenger growth, capacity expansion, and infrastructure development. Under a Share Subscription Agreement and a Shareholders' Agreement, the investors will acquire new equity shares in AAHL through three tranches, with the final tranche expected to close by July 2027. Once all tranches are completed, the investor group will collectively hold about 5.54% of AAHL. The funds raised will be used to expand and modernize airport infrastructure across AAHL's network, accelerate development of integrated Adani Airport City projects—including 22 million square feet of mixed-use development planned in the first phase—and grow passenger-facing and non-aeronautical businesses such as ground handling services. According to AEL, these investments are expected to boost capacity to handle 200 million passengers annually, increase commercial revenue opportunities, improve passenger experience, and strengthen AAHL's broader airport ecosystem. The transaction comes after AEL's ₹15,000 crore qualified institutional placement (QIP) in July 2026, which was the largest QIP by a non-financial corporate in India. Jeet Adani, Non-Executive Director of AAHL, called the partnership a significant milestone in developing the Adani Airports platform, expressing appreciation for the participation of such prominent long-term investors. He said India's aviation sector serves as a major driver of GDP growth, with air connectivity expansion boosting trade, tourism, employment, and regional development beyond airport operations. He added that with these partners' support, the company would continue investing ahead of demand growth, expanding infrastructure, city-side developments, and non-aeronautical businesses to establish one of the world's leading integrated airport platforms. Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, said the company aims to build capabilities to become the world's largest airport platform, citing India's strong growth potential, increasing consumer spending power, and the momentum generated by city-side developments as key drivers for economic growth in the country's major urban centers.
