FIFA will provide members of its Council with access to documents concerning President Gianni Infantino’s abandoned plan to sell stakes in future World Cups to private investors. The documents, part of the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, will be viewed only in person at a Zurich location under strict confidentiality protocols. The 37 Council members must register for an appointment within the next two weeks. The release follows UEFA’s deadline for FIFA to disclose details of the $4.2 bn scheme and explain how the proposal was approved before it was abandoned in July amid global backlash. UEFA, which set the deadline after a tense council meeting where Infantino apologized but offered no further details, is also pursuing his removal before the March 18 presidential election in Rabat, Morocco. Infantino, elected in 2016, is seeking a fourth term through 2031.
