BITS Pilani to Offer Full Tuition Waivers to Top 1,000 BITSAT Rankers from 2027

BITS Pilani will provide full tuition fee scholarships to students who rank among the top 1,000 in the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) for the 2027 admission cycle. The scheme targets academically gifted students from families with an annual income of up to ₹20 lakh. Eligible students will receive a 100 % waiver on tuition fees for the entire four‑year undergraduate programme, provided they maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 7.5.

The scholarship will be included in admission offers, eliminating the need for a separate application after admission. BITS Pilani Group Vice Chancellor V Ramgopal Rao confirmed the initiative in an interview with PTI, saying it aims to ensure that financial constraints do not deter high‑performing students from choosing the institution.

The expanded programme will apply to undergraduate courses at BITS Pilani campuses, including Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Master of Science (MSc) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharma). It follows a rise in the number of high‑ranking BITSAT candidates enrolling under the existing financial assistance programme. Rao noted that admissions among eligible students from the top 500 BITSAT rankers increased by 50 % in 2026, and the required examination score rose from 314 to 324. Enrollment among candidates ranked 501 to 1,000 also grew, despite their exclusion from the previous initiative. Overall, the number of students joining from the top 1,000 BITSAT rankers increased by 50 %.

The new scholarship bracket will be part of the full tuition fee scholarship framework, subject to the prescribed family income and academic conditions. BITS Pilani’s existing financial assistance programmes disbursed about ₹190 crore in scholarships, fee waivers and fellowships during the 2025‑26 academic year across all programmes. Undergraduate students received ₹101 crore of this amount through merit‑based scholarships, merit‑cum‑need assistance and international student scholarships, reaching roughly one in every four students on campus.

The expanded scholarship scheme will take effect with the 2027 admission cycle, extending full tuition support to a larger group of high‑performing BITSAT candidates.
