BMC Removes Dia Mirza’s Diwali Video After BJP Leader’s Protest
By Richa Pinto

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed a Diwali video featuring actress Dia Mirza after a complaint from BJP Mumbai president Ameet Satam. The video, posted by @mybmc on its social media as part of a campaign urging citizens to avoid firecrackers and noise pollution, also included clips of Madhuri Dixit, Nishigandha Wad and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane. Satam posted on X, tagging @mybmc and stating, “We don’t need lessons on how to celebrate #Diwali from @deespeak. Our traditions are deeply rooted in our culture.” He said he had not requested the removal but claimed Mirza had been linked to anti‑India forces and sympathised with those spreading anarchy. When asked why he did not object to the other actors’ videos, Satam said they represented art and sports. The BMC has not confirmed whether it acted on his objection or on its own accord.}
