Karnataka Cabinet Minister Priyank Kharge said on Monday that the Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate were being pressured by a minister in the Narendra Modi government to be used against him. He posted on X that a Union Minister was allegedly urging the Modi administration to weaponise the IT and ED against him and his cabinet colleagues, using the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) investigation as political cover. Kharge also claimed that a new Group D recruit of the RSS was attempting to use the ED to pressure all accused to falsely implicate Congress leaders and himself in the KPSC recruitment case. He concluded that the “extremely hard working” minister was not prepared to go down alone and seemed determined to drag his coalition partners down with him.

Earlier on October 26, Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the KPSC would be given a “new form” to prevent examination irregularities and ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process. Speaking at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said permission had been granted to interrogate accused Jnanendra in connection with the KPSC irregularities case to bring out the truth. He added that the ED and officials had investigated the matter and that immediate permission had been given for interrogation. Shivakumar also noted that a committee had been formed to examine measures to prevent such incidents and that its recommendations would be considered.
