A 35‑year‑old woman was discovered murdered in a hotel room in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, between Saturday and Sunday. Police say the victim, Chandni Devi from Kharagpur in Munger district, Bihar, was strangled, as indicated by injury marks on her neck. She was staying in rented accommodation in Gadpuri, Palwal, while her husband worked in Bengaluru and their children lived in Munger.

Investigators found that Devi and a 39‑year‑old man named Shekhar had booked the room on Saturday at 10 a.m., presenting themselves as a married couple. The pair left after lunch, the last time hotel staff saw them together. On the night between Saturday and Sunday, a hotel employee opened the room door and found Devi lying on the bed. The employee attempted to wake her, shook her, and, finding her unresponsive and cold, alerted the hotel manager.

The manager called the police, and teams of investigators and forensic experts arrived. Devi was taken to a government hospital in Ballabhgarh, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Police used documents provided by the suspect to contact Devi’s family. They confirmed that Shekhar was not her husband. Devi’s husband was in Bengaluru and her family in Bihar were notified; they are expected to arrive in Faridabad by Monday evening.

Following the hotel manager’s complaint, a first information report was registered against Shekhar under section 103(1) (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at Ballabhgarh City police station on Sunday. The suspect’s identity documents used for booking are being verified. Police say Shekhar is the prime suspect and will be arrested soon. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death before the body is handed over to the family.
