Afghanistan Coach Pybus Praises Team’s Growth After Tri‑Series Victory
By Atif Azam

Afghanistan head coach Richard Pybus said his players had handled their responsibilities well and that the side was evolving after winning a tri‑series in Sharjah. Afghanistan finished the tournament unbeaten, defeating Zimbabwe by 158 runs and Bangladesh by seven wickets in the group stage, and then beating Zimbabwe again in the final by seven wickets. Pybus described the dressing room as “happy” after the team won three matches in five days, noting the players’ ability to cope with heat and humidity. He added that the team is building depth and can adapt to different conditions worldwide. "We came off the back of a positive series in Ireland. We're looking to build a side which can adapt to different conditions," Pybus said. He praised the players’ willingness to take responsibility, citing examples from Ireland and the current series. Pybus also highlighted the need for more opportunities against top full‑member sides for development. He lauded captain Rahmat Shah for his calm leadership and for encouraging input from the whole squad. Shah has yet to lose an ODI as captain, taking over from Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Afghanistan have won seven consecutive ODIs under his leadership. "Seven wins on the trot. It’s not always going to be as sweet as that but you know he's made a really great start," Pybus said, expressing confidence in Shah’s continued positive influence on the team.
