By HT News Desk

Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, performed a Bhumi Pujan and laid the foundation stone for the proposed Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray in Karjat, near Mumbai. The township, which will cover about 100 acres and be developed in phases pending approvals, is intended to serve as a lifelong home for orphaned children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Speaking at the ceremony, Ambani said the project is a step toward creating a community where people with disabilities, children without families and seniors can live with dignity, care and a sense of belonging. She added that the township will combine compassionate care, medical support and the warmth of family life, allowing residents to live surrounded by nature, learn, work, make friends and celebrate festivals. The plan is to accommodate more than 5,000 residents, including those with developmental disabilities, orphaned children and seniors, with caregivers, medical professionals, support staff and their families bringing the total community to roughly 15,000 people. Facilities will include residential homes, a temple, a hospital, playgrounds, gardens, farms and workshops. Residents will live in small, family‑style homes and receive individualized care and development plans covering healthcare, education, skill development, employment, social relationships and personal well-being.
