Everton secured a 3‑1 victory over Newcastle United at Goodison Park, earning a place in the Carabao Cup quarter‑finals against Fleetwood Town. The match, part of a double header with a Premier League game five days later, saw Everton dominate from the start. They pressed high and created early chances, including a deflected shot by Kiernan Dewsbury‑Hall and a penalty appeal when Thierno Barry was fouled by Dan Burn.

Newcastle gradually gained possession, threatening with the likes of Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock, but goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made several key saves and demanded better defensive performance from his side. Everton’s rhythm emerged through energetic link‑up play involving Tyrique George, Mykolenko, and Dibling. After winning back possession deep in Newcastle’s half, George forced a turnover that allowed Hayden Hackney to set up James Garner, who scored the first goal of the season.

Newcastle pushed for an equaliser, but Barnes’ effort went wide and the visitors repeatedly appealed for fouls. Dewsbury‑Hall’s drive led to a heavy challenge; the referee played advantage, allowing Barry to pick up the loose ball and volley past Pickford for the second goal. In the second half, Everton’s defensive structure, anchored by Pickford, neutralised Newcastle’s attempts to establish rhythm. Despite a lively start from Newcastle’s substitutes Joelinton, Yoane Wissa, and Anthony Elanga, Everton’s defence held firm.

A collision between Fabian Schär and Pickford sparked a confrontation that resulted in yellow cards for both players. Newcastle eventually broke through when Dan Burn headed home from a late cross, but a post‑goal scuffle saw additional cautions for Burn, James Tarkowski, and Joelinton. Moyes managed the closing minutes with defensive substitutions, introducing Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Johnson, Ainsley Maitland‑Niles, and Christian Nørgaard to protect the advantage.

The match ended 3‑1, confirming Everton’s place in the quarter‑finals against Fleetwood Town. Hayden Hackney was named Man of the Match for his assist and goal, and for his overall contribution of 38 touches and six defensive actions. The win follows Fleetwood Town’s recent victory over Arsenal, setting up a challenging quarter‑final for Everton.
