New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on X that President Donald Trump has agreed to issue a visa to the mother of 15‑year‑old Javits Frimpong, who was shot and killed in the Bronx on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The White House has not yet responded to an Associated Press email confirming the visa issuance. Frimpong was on his way to school in a Bronx neighborhood shortly before 9:30 a.m. when he was shot in the abdomen, police said, and he died at a hospital later that day. No arrests have been made and the case remains under investigation. Mamdani wrote on Saturday, October 31, that the murder of a child is a pain no parent should endure, especially from far away, and that Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye in person. He added that he had just spoken with President Trump, who has agreed to grant the visa immediately. U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres, a Democrat from the Bronx, noted that Frimpong had arrived in the Bronx from Ghana a year ago to live with his father and start a new life. Torres said the borough is mourning a young man who had a promising future and that every child in the Bronx should be able to walk to school without fear. Ghana’s Foreign Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa posted that Ghanaian officials in New York are coordinating with local authorities and that the Foreign Ministry will work with U.S. authorities to secure justice. Trump has tightened immigration during his second term, including suspending visa processing from 75 countries. Published November 01, 2026 05:13 am IST
