AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led government for its “administrative incompetence” on Saturday. Speaking at a meeting in Maraimalai Nagar on the outskirts of Chennai, he addressed the 55th formation day celebrations of his party and questioned the achievements of the TVK-led administration. He noted that schemes such as the marriage assistance program for women were originally launched by the previous AIADMK regime, which had provided financial assistance and gold for thirumangalyam. Palaniswami pointed out that a steep rise in construction material prices had halted infrastructure work. He also questioned the TVK regime’s decision to procure power at higher rates after the state power utility was reported to be in debt of ₹2.47 lakh crore. The AIADMK leader cited rising inflation, growing unemployment, rampant drug availability, lack of security for all sections of society, and deteriorating law and order as marks of the government’s reign. Although the ruling party claimed to run a “clean government,” searches by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption at several government offices recovered cash, suggesting bribery. Palaniswami alleged that some party members and functionaries were being wooed by other parties, attempting to disturb, immobilise, and split the AIADMK. He said that only in his party are workers respected. Regarding the recent setbacks in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram by‑elections, he attributed the ruling party’s victory to its alliance with many parties, while one AIADMK ally remained “neutral.” He also referred to Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader P. Shanmugam’s allegation about money distribution before the by‑polls. Palaniswami claimed that there were three people functioning as chief ministers, not just C. Joseph Vijay, and that all administrative decisions were being taken by them. Published – October 31, 2026 11:45 pm IST
