By PTI

Panaji, Goa – Goa police and the state tourism department have increased coordination with hotels, restaurants, clubs and other hospitality businesses to improve tourist safety, curb online booking fraud, and ensure regulatory compliance before Diwali and the peak winter tourism season. The measures were discussed at a stakeholder meeting chaired by Director General of Police Alok Kumar on Friday. Representatives from hospitality establishments were briefed on their responsibilities to maintain a safe environment for tourists and residents. Kumar said protecting every individual in Goa, including visitors, remains a priority and that police preparedness is being strengthened through collaboration with the Tourism Department and hospitality stakeholders. He emphasized that security is not solely the police’s responsibility; hotels, restaurants, clubs and other tourism businesses must maintain safety infrastructure and promote responsible conduct among staff and security personnel. The meeting covered topics such as installing and maintaining CCTV systems, keeping entry and exit points unobstructed, complying with fire safety regulations, ensuring staff conduct, and adhering to noise limits. Hospitality stakeholders were urged to stay vigilant against unlawful activities, report suspicious incidents promptly, and cooperate with enforcement agencies. Special emphasis was placed on preventing online hotel‑booking fraud, with establishments instructed to remain alert to fraudulent booking practices and assist authorities in addressing complaints. The tourism department also highlighted that visitor safety and confidence are integral to Goa’s tourism experience, urging establishments to maintain high standards of service, safety and professionalism while complying with applicable regulations. Goa will host the sixth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Goa on November 1 at Miramar, with more than 2,000 triathletes from 30 countries expected to participate. The international endurance event, featuring swimming, cycling and running segments, is expected to further showcase the state’s appeal as a destination for sporting events and sports tourism. Authorities said coordinated efforts among the police, government departments, event organisers and other stakeholders are essential for participant safety, crowd management and the smooth conduct of such large‑scale events. The state aims to strengthen visitor confidence and safeguard local communities through continued coordination between the tourism department, Goa police and the hospitality sector.
