JD(U) Marks 23rd Anniversary, Highlights Nitish Kumar’s Role in Bihar’s Progress
By Amit Bhelari

On Friday, October 30, 2026, the ruling Janata Dal (United) celebrated the 23rd anniversary of its founding and praised President and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his leadership in Bihar’s development. Working president Sanjay Jha posted on X that, with public trust, dedicated workers, and a commitment to good governance, the party has established a distinct identity in the state’s politics. He wrote, “Under the leadership and guidance of our esteemed national president, Nitish Kumar ji, the party has played a pivotal role in advancing Bihar’s development, social justice, good governance, and inclusive growth. On this special occasion, heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all senior leaders, dedicated workers, and supporters of the party.” Jha added that the party should unite to strengthen public service and continue working tirelessly for Bihar’s progress and prosperity.
State president Umesh Singh Kushwaha also sent greetings on the foundation day, noting the 23‑year journey of JD(U) under Nitish Kumar’s leadership as dedicated to social justice and good governance. Speaking to the media, he called Kumar the party’s undisputed leader and identified his son, Health Minister Nishant Kumar, as a future leader. Kushwaha said the party was founded on October 30, 2003, drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan and Jannayak Karpoori Thakur. He added that since Nitish Kumar took charge of Bihar in November 2005, he ushered in a new era for the state, introducing a transformative model centred on “development with justice,” good governance, and women’s empowerment that fundamentally altered Bihar’s destiny and image.
Kushwaha noted that before 2005 the term “Bihari” had become synonymous with contempt and neglect, but Nitish Kumar’s efforts restored honour and self‑respect to Bihar and its people. In his message, he urged party workers and leaders to resolve to elevate JD(U) to unprecedented heights of success. He said, “We shall further strengthen the hands of the party’s future and our popular Health Minister, Nishant ji. We shall reinforce our commitment in taking the socialist principles of our leader, Nitish Kumar, as well as the contributions he has made toward the development of Bihar, to every household and every individual.”
JD(U) has announced a programme titled Sushasan Diwas: Nitish Samvad (Good Governance Day: Dialogue with Nitish) to be held across all districts on November 24, 2026. Senior leader and minister Leshi Singh has been appointed State Coordinator for the event. Published – October 31, 2026 04:10 am IST
