OCBC was named the strongest bank in the Asia Pacific and ranked third globally in The Asian Banker’s (TAB) latest 1,000 Strongest Banks ranking announced on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The Singapore-based second‑largest bank became the first Singaporean to finish in the top three since the ranking began in 2023. OCBC surpassed seven Asia Pacific banks that ranked higher last year, including DBS, China Merchants Bank and Japan’s SMFG. DBS was placed 23rd and United Overseas Bank (UOB) 187th. TAB evaluated banks on sovereign risk, scale, balance‑sheet growth, risk profile, profitability, asset quality and liquidity. JPMorgan Chase topped the list, followed by Saudi National Bank. TAB, founded in Singapore in 1996, also released a World’s Top Performing Banks ranking by Forbes and Statista, where OCBC led all global banks, with DBS second. OCBC’s group chief executive Tan Teck Long said the recognition reflects the bank’s resilience and that it will continue to build on its strong foundation to create lasting value for customers, communities and shareholders. Christian Kapfer, research director of TABInsights, noted OCBC’s diversified earnings, sound asset quality and strong capital position as key to its financial strength. The bank’s ranking has improved over the years, moving from 36th in 2023 to 10th in 2024 and 11th in 2025. OCBC’s share price on the Singapore Exchange has risen about 72% since the same time last year.
