Cora Reflects on Emotional Fenway Moment After Departure

Alex Cora’s tenure with the Boston Red Sox ended when the club and the longtime manager separated in April. The abrupt exit came early in the 2026 season, but Cora said Boston will always hold a special place for him and his family. In an interview with Rob Bradford on the "Baseball Isn’t Boring" podcast, Cora recounted a touching incident involving one of his twin boys. While the family was traveling to a World Cup viewing party at City Hall Plaza, the boy’s car passed Fenway Park and he had an emotional reaction. "All of a sudden, it’s very quiet, right? And we look back, and one of the boys was crying," Cora told Bradford. "And [Cora’s fiancee] Angelica turns around, and he tries to hide. And she’s like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, you cry because we lived here for six, seven years. This is part of our life. And we will always remember Fenway. We will always love the Red Sox.’" The conversation with Cora was released at midnight on October 25, 2026. Cora left the dugout after the Red Sox lost 17 of their first 27 games, dropping the team to last place in the American League East. He finished with an overall record of 620‑541 in Boston and led the club to a championship in 2018. During the summer, Cora enjoyed time with his family and watched the Red Sox’s impressive turnaround under new manager Chad Tracy, with his children still cheering for the team. "The Red Sox were playing the Tigers, and I’m watching the beginning of it," Cora said. "And one of the boys comes down, and he’s like, ‘Who’s playing?’ I’m like, ‘Tigers and Red Sox.’ And he goes, ‘Who are we pulling for?’ I’m like, ‘Who do you want to win? Which team do you want to win?’ And he goes, ‘The Red Sox, of course.’"
