The Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Mirchowk Inspector of Police M. Kondal Rao and Home Guard Abid Ali on Tuesday. They allegedly demanded ₹6 lakh from a complainant and accepted a partial payment of ₹3 lakh to close a case against the complainant’s father. City Range‑1 officials apprehended Rao on 27 October after he received the bribe through Ali. The ₹3 lakh in tainted currency was recovered from Ali’s possession. According to the ACB, the bribe was sought in exchange for official favours, including closing the case, avoiding coercive action, and providing future support. The two officers were taken into custody and are being presented before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The investigation is ongoing. The ACB has not disclosed the complainant’s identity for security reasons and has urged anyone facing bribe demands from public servants to call its toll‑free number, 1064, for action under the law.
