India Sets New Record for Fastest Team Century in T20Is, Powered by Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

India reached 100 runs in exactly five overs against New Zealand at Wellington, breaking the world record for the fastest team century in T20 International history. The Indian openers, Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, dominated the match, turning a chase of 199 into a one‑sided exhibition. In the opening six overs India scored 118 runs without loss, the highest powerplay total ever recorded in men’s T20Is. Sharma hit a 14‑ball half‑century, joining the fastest half‑centuries in the format among full‑member teams, while Sooryavanshi contributed heavily to the rapid start.

India’s explosive opening over yielded 26 runs, equalling the record for the most expensive first over in a men’s T20I innings. The team also reached 50 runs in just 2.2 overs, matching the fastest team fifty by overs. Sharma’s aggressive approach from the first ball earned him the record for most first‑ball sixes in T20Is, with eight instances.

New Zealand had built a competitive total of 198/3, but India’s relentless batting from the outset rendered those efforts irrelevant. The record‑breaking 100‑run milestone surpassed Romania’s previous fastest team century of 5.2 overs set in 2021.
