Guwahati Cab Driver Confesses to Beheading Wife Over Alleged Affair, Body Found After Two-Day Silence

A gruesome discovery in Guwahati's Beltola area has led to the arrest of a man accused of killing his wife and storing her severed head in a refrigerator. The victim, identified as Riya Talukdar, who had recently worked at a boutique, was found partially decomposed and decapitated in the couple's flat.
The case came to light after relatives grew concerned when they were unable to reach the couple for two days. They alerted the police, prompting a team from Hatigaon police station to visit the residence. Officers found the front door open and Talukdar's body lying on the floor, with her head missing. A subsequent search revealed the severed head wrapped in a plastic bag inside the refrigerator.
The victim's husband, Ramanuj Goswami, a cab driver, later surrendered to police and confessed to the killing. According to investigators, Goswami said the couple had an argument on September 3 that continued into the early hours of the following day. He claimed he lost his temper during the altercation and killed her. Police recovered a 'dao', or machete, from the house, which is believed to be the weapon used in the crime.
Goswami alleged that his wife was involved in an extra-marital affair, which he said had led to frequent disputes between them. The couple, married for less than a year, lived in a flat built on land belonging to Goswami's family. Goswami is originally from Dhubri district, while Talukdar was a native of Guwahati.
Police are continuing to verify the sequence of events and details surrounding the case. A detailed interrogation of the accused is still pending.
