Bronx Woman and Infant Found Outside Apartment After Balcony Incident, Police Investigate as Homicide

A 23‑year‑old woman and her 8‑month‑old daughter were discovered outside a Bronx apartment building on Olinville Avenue early Tuesday, prompting a police investigation. Officers responded around 3:30 a.m. and found the woman and child outside the building. The infant was transported by police to Jacobi Hospital in a patrol vehicle, where she remains in critical condition. The woman, identified as Nathaly Ramirez, was also taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead. Neighbors gathered afterward with flowers and candles to mourn the young mother and support families affected by similar tragedies. A neighbor, Tasha, said, “It’s a family. It’s a baby involved. You know. It’s senseless.” Investigators are trying to determine exactly what happened and are looking to speak with Ramirez’s ex‑boyfriend. Officers spent hours examining a 15th‑floor balcony for evidence while canvassing for surveillance video and additional witnesses. A witness told Eyewitness News that she heard a woman yelling, “please don’t do this!” before seeing something fall to the ground. Officials say even in her final moments, Ramirez’s motherly instincts kicked in as she wrapped her baby in a tight embrace, likely cushioning the impact of the fall. Friends said Ramirez was devoted to her daughter. “She was very happy like she was very happy to be a mom. She’s a new mom and the baby was very happy,” one friend said. Neighbors said the victim had recently moved in and was friendly and warm and did not exhibit any obvious signs of trouble. However, sources said there is a documented history of domestic violence. Neighbors said they witnessed a disturbance involving a man at the residence earlier this year. “It happened in January — he was kicking the door down trying to get into the apartment,” neighbor Mike said. “I’m not even sure what else can be done but something that will shine a light on the drastic uptick in domestic violence situations especially for you know women out here— women like her.” No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
