Delhi Metro to Close 57 Stations from 9 PM Oct 9 as Security Measure Ahead of Protest

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that entry and exit gates at 57 stations would be closed from 9 PM on 9 October 2026 and remain closed throughout 10 October until further notice, citing security reasons. Interchange facilities will remain available at the affected stations, except for the New Delhi Metro station. Passengers will still be able to change lines at the listed stations but will not be able to enter or exit through them while the restrictions are in force.
The stations affected include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate, Mandi House and New Delhi, among others. The full list covers major interchange points, busy commercial areas and stations across Central, South, North, North‑West, East and North‑East Delhi. The restrictions were announced as a preventive security measure after Delhi Police expressed concerns about crowds gathering near stations and moving toward the protest venue or other sensitive locations.
The closures come ahead of a protest planned by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and other groups at Jantar Mantar on 10 October. Demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The Supreme Court, on 9 October, warned that while law and order must be maintained, public transport should not be brought to a complete halt. A Bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, joined by Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, emphasized that Metro train movement should not be entirely suspended. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the Bench that authorities would be asked to reconsider the restrictions and allow Metro and railway services to operate in a regulated manner.
The DMRC’s announcement concerns only entry and exit access at the listed stations and does not indicate a full suspension of Metro train services. Passengers travelling to railway stations or government offices should check their routes in advance and consider alternative access points where available.
