TGERC Approves ₹5,420.23‑Crore True‑Up Charges, Raising Unit Rates by ₹0.30–₹0.50 for 26–29 Months

Hyderabad – The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) has approved true‑up charges of ₹5,420.23 crore to be collected from non‑farm power consumers for energy used in 2022‑23 and 2023‑24. True‑up charges cover the cost difference between the price recovered from consumers and the actual cost of power supplied, driven by higher fuel, power purchase and operational costs. The total approved true‑up amount is ₹7,635.22 crore, including ₹2,214.99 crore for agricultural pump‑set energy, which is supplied free of charge. The Commission has asked the two distribution companies to seek state government approval to recover the charges for agricultural pump‑set energy.
From November 2026, domestic, commercial, industrial and lift‑irrigation consumers will see an additional ₹0.30 per unit on their monthly bills, rising to ₹0.50 per unit from December. The recovery period is 29 months for Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) and 26 months for Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGNPDCL). For example, a household using 200 units a month would pay an extra ₹60 in November and ₹100 from December onward, until March 2029 for TGSPDCL customers and December 2028 for TGNPDCL customers.
In its order dated Monday, October 5, 2026, the TGERC stated that the ₹7,635.22 crore includes ₹5,186.29 crore of power‑purchase true‑up for 2022‑23 and ₹2,448.93 crore of revenue true‑up for 2023‑24. The per‑unit recovery amounts to ₹0.80 for 2022‑23 and ₹0.33 for 2023‑24. Total recovery from TGSPDCL consumers will be ₹4,222.93 crore over 29 months, and ₹1,197.30 crore from TGNPDCL consumers over 26 months, starting November 2026.
Approved energy sales were 64,434.42 million units (MU) in 2022‑23, including 17,629.25 MU for agricultural pump‑sets, and 74,442.36 MU in 2023‑24, including 25,154.04 MU for agricultural use. The distribution companies have collected ₹798.87 crore more than the cost of supply from consumers in 2024‑25; this excess will be adjusted in the annual revenue requirement for the retail supply business for 2026‑27.
