FSSAI Issues Notices to Multiple Companies Over Misleading Claims for Celevida GLP Protein Supplement

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued notices on Thursday to Dr Reddy’s, Nestle Health Science, Tirupati Wellness, Flipkart, Amazon and Netmeds for selling the protein supplement “Celevida GLP” with misleading health claims. The regulator said the product’s packaging listed benefits such as muscle strength, immunity support and energy metabolism, which could mislead consumers about its health benefits. FSSAI noted that the product was advertised as “high protein support for lean muscle preservation during GLP‑1/GIP therapies,” implying suitability for a specific physiological condition. The claims “Helps Maintain Lean Muscle,” “support muscle strength” and “preserve lean mass” were found to suggest the product might mitigate loss of lean body mass during weight loss and GLP‑1/GIP therapy. The supplement was also marketed as a complete nutrition product and advertised as “imported from Europe for purity.” The authority has asked the companies to explain why no action should be taken against them. Notices were also sent to e‑commerce platforms Flipkart India Pvt and Amazon Seller Services Pvt for selling the product. Amazon confirmed that the product is no longer available on its marketplace after regulatory directions. Dr Reddy’s and Nestle Health Science launched Celevida GLP as a high‑protein powder in May, claiming it supports nutrition and muscle mass maintenance for people taking weight‑loss and diabetes GLP‑1 drugs in India. FSSAI has also taken action against Nex International and Shreyash Retail Pvt Ltd for sale of unsafe food, and has suspended the licence of Flipkart seller Shreyash Retail over sale of expired/rotten food. It has sanctioned prosecution against Nex International over pesticide‑contaminated loose raisins.
