Police File FIR Against Sisters After Rat‑In‑Dosa Incident Sparks Extortion Allegations
By TNN

A complaint about a rat allegedly found in a masala dosa at a Borivli hotel led to an unexpected legal turn. On September 24, sisters Mansi and Kinjal and their relatives dined at the restaurant. One relative reported a rat in the dosa, causing a disturbance and prompting a police call. A video that appeared on social media two days later showed the rat and quickly went viral. On September 28, the Food and Drug Administration suspended the restaurant’s licence. After the suspension, the hotelier received a call from the sisters demanding Rs 25 lakh in compensation. They claimed their relative’s health had worsened after eating the food and needed money for treatment. When the hotelier said he could not pay Rs 25 lakh, the sisters allegedly lowered the demand to Rs 7 lakh. The hotelier eventually paid Rs 1 lakh, but the sisters continued to call and message him for the balance. The hotelier reported the matter to police, and on October 5 the Borivli Police registered an FIR against Mansi and Kinjal. Investigation is ongoing.
