SriLankan Airlines Grounds Jakarta Flights as Volcanic Ash Disrupts Indonesian Airspace

SriLankan Airlines has cancelled its scheduled flights between Colombo and Jakarta, UL364 and UL365, following the eruption of Indonesia's Mount Anak Krakatau, which has released volcanic ash clouds over the region. Indonesian aviation authorities suspended operations at several airports, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, after ash and silica-laden rock fragments spread across the area, creating potential hazards for aircraft engines and flight control systems. Authorities have also imposed restrictions on flights passing through the western air corridor leading toward Sri Lanka, the airline said. The cancellations come a day after two SriLankan Airlines flights from Sydney and Melbourne were diverted overnight to avoid the ash-affected airspace.
