Malayali Singer Known for Udit Narayan-Like Voice Dies at 44 in Dubai Ahead of Scheduled Show
Malayali singer Nisar Wayanad, celebrated for his voice resembling that of Bollywood playback legend Udit Narayan, died at a hospital in Dubai on Saturday evening at the age of 44. According to Gulf News, his death occurred just hours before he was scheduled to perform at an event in Ajman.
Born Nissar Aroth Ibrahim, the singer took his stage name from his hometown roots in Wayanad, Kerala. He was a well-known figure among Malayali communities in the UAE, frequently performing at musical programmes and community gatherings in Dubai. His remarkable ability to recreate Udit Narayan's voice became a hallmark of his live performances.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
According to friends of the singer cited by Gulf News, Nisar Wayanad developed a high fever on Saturday afternoon and was rushed to a hospital in Dubai for treatment. Reports indicate that his death notification listed acidosis as the cause of death. He died on the same day he was due to perform in Ajman.
Nisar Wayanad had long expressed deep admiration for Udit Narayan. In an earlier social media post, he described finally meeting the veteran singer after waiting two decades for the encounter. He wrote that it was a dream he had held onto for many years, calling himself Udit Narayan's biggest fan since childhood and describing the meeting as a moment he would cherish forever.
While often introduced as a Mappilapattu singer, a traditional folk genre from Kerala, his musical range extended well beyond that style. He was particularly known for performing Bollywood songs, with his resemblance to Udit Narayan's voice setting him apart in live shows across Dubai.
Following news of his death, Malayalam playback singer Afsal paid tribute to him on social media, describing him as a dear friend.
Nisar Wayanad's career extended beyond stage performances into the film industry. He had lent his voice to a Kannada film and was also reportedly associated with the Malayalam movie Professor Dinkan.
