Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA)’s Mumbai Board will initiate construction of over 35,000 homes in this new year, under the state government’s 100-day program. These include rehabilitation of 27,000 slums in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the cluster redevelopment of Abhyudaya Nagar, and the reconstruction of 25 buildings for Sindhi refugees in GTB Nagar.
The groundbreaking ceremonies for these projects, along with the commencement of other housing projects, will take place soon. Over 35,000 homes are expected to begin construction in Mumbai over the next two months.
“Following the establishment of the new government, each department was instructed to present a 100-day action plan to expedite state initiatives and ambitious projects,” said a senior official. Accordingly, MHADA has set a target to begin constructing over 33,000 homes in Mumbai through its Mumbai Board.
This includes the redevelopment of 27,000 slums in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Abhyudaya Nagar in Kalachowki, and the GTB Nagar redevelopment project. According to the official, the groundbreaking ceremonies for these three projects will occur in the coming days.
These three projects will collectively result in the construction of approximately 31,500 homes, including 27,000 in the national park, 3,350 in Abhyudaya Nagar, and 1,200 in GTB Nagar. Additionally, the redevelopment of Abhyudaya Nagar will provide the Mumbai Board with 40,000 sq m of additional area for housing units, while the GTB Nagar project will yield 23,000 sq m of additional area.
