Indian Railways is set to disrupt train operations on a large scale in late September and early October as work continues on the new double-line Ganga bridge near Mokama in Bihar. A total of 845 train services will be affected during the 14-day period from September 21 to October 4, with cancellations, diversions and partial changes in service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the East Central Railway, the disruption is linked to Non-Interlocking work needed to commission the new bridge that runs parallel to the existing Rajendra Bridge over the Ganga. The upgrade is meant to connect the new structure to the rail network at several points, including Upper Hathidah Junction, Tal Junction, Rampur Dumra, Dinkar Gram Simaria and Barauni Junction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Railways has said that 338 trains will be cancelled, 384 will be diverted, 56 will be short-terminated and 67 will be short-originated. The work is expected to begin on September 21 and continue until October 4, with the biggest disruption likely on October 3, when 36 trains are scheduled to be cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The affected services include several long-distance express trains and passenger trains operating across Bihar and neighboring states. Routes through West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha will also feel the impact, making the block important not just for local commuters but for long-distance travelers as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The infrastructure work is part of a major effort to improve capacity on the Mokama rail corridor. The existing Rajendra Setu, built in 1959, has limited room for further expansion, which is why the new parallel bridge is being brought into service. Once complete, the upgraded line is expected to ease congestion and improve train movement across eastern India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since cancellations and route changes will be spread across different dates, not every train will be impacted on the same day.
