The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 726.13 points to reach 77,471.26, while the broader NSE Nifty 50 advanced 203.50 points to 24,189.05. Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra and HCL Technologies were among the prominent gainers as investors continued buying Indian IT companies despite weakness in several global technology markets. Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel also supported the rally, while InterGlobe Aviation, Bharat Electronics, Power Grid and Axis Bank were among the stocks trading under pressure. Fresh foreign institutional investment contributed to the positive sentiment after FIIs became net buyers on Tuesday and purchased shares worth ₹755.33 crore, according to provisional exchange data. This marked a shift from the persistent foreign selling that had weighed on Indian equities during parts of the month. Domestic investors were also encouraged by stronger quarterly earnings from selected companies and expectations that Indian technology firms may remain relatively insulated from concerns affecting some international artificial-intelligence and semiconductor stocks. The Nifty IT index rose strongly, extending gains recorded during the previous sessions as investors reassessed valuations and earnings prospects across the sector. However, the rebound occurred against a mixed international backdrop. South Korea’s KOSPI recorded a steep fall amid heavy selling in chip-manufacturing companies, while Japan’s Nikkei and China’s Shanghai Composite also traded lower. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was among the few major Asian indices trading positively, while United States markets had closed mostly higher in the previous session. Investors were also awaiting the US Federal Reserve’s monetary-policy decision and its guidance on inflation and interest rates, which could influence global capital flows, the dollar and emerging-market equities. Another important risk came from crude oil, with Brent rising more than 4% to around $87.70 per barrel following renewed geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Higher oil prices are generally negative for India because the country imports most of its crude requirements, and a sustained increase can raise inflation, widen the trade deficit, weaken the rupee and increase costs for airlines, transport companies, paint manufacturers and other fuel-dependent businesses. Despite the rise in crude, broad-based buying supported the market, with most major sectoral indices and the mid-cap and small-cap segments advancing during the morning session. The rally followed a subdued close on Tuesday, when the Sensex declined 69.86 points to 76,765.92 and the Nifty slipped 10.60 points to 23,985.35 after surrendering earlier gains. Wednesday’s recovery showed renewed investor appetite near the 24,000 level on the Nifty, but the sustainability of the move will depend on foreign fund flows, quarterly corporate earnings, crude-oil prices, global technology-market sentiment and the Federal Reserve’s policy signals. Since the reported figures represent early trade rather than the final closing levels, the benchmarks may experience further volatility as the session progresses.

Indian equity markets rebounded sharply in early trading on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, as strong buying in information-technology companies, HDFC Bank and other index heavyweights helped the benchmark indices recover from the previous session’s marginal decline.
