The listing came as part of Vedanta Group\u2019s larger demerger plan, under which eligible shareholders were set to receive one share each in Vedanta Aluminium, Vedanta Power, Vedanta Oil & Gas and Vedanta Iron & Steel for every Vedanta share held on the record date. With a debut market capitalisation of around \u20b92.06 lakh crore, Vedanta Aluminium immediately emerged as one of the most closely watched companies from the newly listed group entities, even surpassing the parent company\u2019s market value at the time of listing. The debut also came ahead of many market expectations, as analysts had earlier projected a lower listing range, making the strong opening a key talking point among investors. The company is among India\u2019s largest aluminium producers and operates major assets including its alumina refinery in Odisha, the large Jharsuguda aluminium plant and Bharat Aluminium Company Limited in Chhattisgarh. The listing has therefore raised a bigger question in the market: whether Vedanta Aluminium could become the group\u2019s new crown jewel after the demerger. While the long-term performance will depend on aluminium demand, commodity prices, operational efficiency and investor confidence, the company\u2019s market debut has clearly placed it at the centre of attention in India\u2019s metal sector and given shareholders a separate pure-play aluminium business to track more closely in the coming sessions.
